Our Commitment to the Community:
Years before Leah considered becoming a lactation consultant, she accepted a position on the board of the Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia. As the daughter of the first La Leche League Leader in Florida who went on to sit on the LLL International Board, Leah’s commitment to mothers and babies is in her blood. She has chaired various committees with HMHB, including fundraising, and she is currently chairing the Breastfeeding Licensure and Reimbursement Committee. You can take three minutes to understand how to improve Georgia’s breastfeeding rates here. Join Leah, Claire, and other Georgians who care about access to breastfeeding support by contacting your legislator on important breastfeeding issues by signing up here.
Claire has always been interested in breastfeeding policy and cooperative action in addition to clinical work. She has served on community coalitions and task forces for two decades. In 2012 she became the coordinator of the Georgia Breastfeeding Coalition. She works with the volunteer board of directors to improve and maintain the health of Georgia’s families by protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding. Current board initiatives include The Business Case for Breastfeeding, supporting hospitals seeking to be designated as Baby Friendly, further developing the peer support network and access to skilled breastfeeding support by increasing the number of IBCLCs in Georgia, and recognizing breastfeeding friendly doctors. Both Leah and Claire volunteer as leaders with the La Leche League Buckhead/Sandy Springs group. To learn more about La Leche League’s mother-to-mother support groups see www.lllofga.org .
